Day 2140 - Ray Conniff and His Orchestra "S'Wonderful" - 03.31.17

Recently I picked up a Ray Conniff record that had songs from Saturday Night Fever and I loved it so much that it lead me down a Ray Conniff rabbit hole.  So when I saw 4-5 Ray Conniff records at Goodwill recently, I picked those up as well.  This is one of those records.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2139 - Tears For Fears "The Hurting" - 03.30.17

I stayed home from work today.  Actually, I stayed home yesterday as well.   I have just been exhausted and needed the rest.  This morning I took down this Tears For Fears record off the shelf for a photo.  There is a chance I may have take a photo of this record in the past, but I am resisting the urge to search my own blog to check.  Either way this is something I saw today.

Day 2138 - The Prids "Love Zero" - 03.29.17

The Prids is a band I saw a few years ago at Safari Sams.  I think they were one of the opening bands for The Supersuckers.  I could be wrong on that, but I think it was The Superuckers.  I bought this record at that show.  The other day a track from this record came up on my iPod, which reminded me of them.  I had sort of forgotten, but really loved the track.  So today I pulled the record off the shelf for a photo.  I see that I had put the set list in the record.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2137 - Heroes Shed No Tears and Eastern Condors - 03.28.17

This evening was a Hong Kong action double feature.  This morning I said to my wife that 90's version of me would never imagine that 20 years later I would be sitting in Quentin Tarantino's theater watching films by John Woo and Sammo Hung.  Both films were fun, but Eastern Condors was by far the better of the two film.  It was fun and per usual with Sammo films and the action was fast and furious.  The choreography and stunts were inventive and the production value was top notch.  There was a lot of gun play, but everything culminated in a big James Bond-esque set and a ton of hand to hand martial arts action.  It was great.  This was something I saw today.

Day 2136 - Traffic Accident - 03.27.17

I was glad I had my camera with me in the car this morning.  I was snapping photos of billboards and store fronts and then I come to Cahuenga and Santa Monica and this gnarly scene. Not only it the truck on its side, but you'll notice that the car completely took out the lamp post.  It is laying on the telephone/power line above.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2135 - Pee Wee's Place - 03.26.17

This afternoon, my wife and I had a nice quiet afternoon reading mostly.  I took this photo of our Pee Wee Herman shrine this while we were lazily laying around.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2134 - Tomb Of Dracula Essentials Vol. 3 - 03.25.17

This afternoon I started reading volume 3 of The Tomb Of Dracula Essentials having just finished volume 2.  It kicks off great with issue 50 that has a Silver Surfer crossover.  This should keep me company at nights for the next few months.  This is something I saw today.

Friday, March 24, 2017

Day 2133 - Labelle "Phoenix" - 03.24.17

I have been listening to some 60's and 70's soul recently with Marvin Gaye and The Impressions.  That made me think of featuring a record from that era today.  So I pulled one of my Labelle records off the shelf.  This is Phoenix and something I saw today.

Day 2132 - Buddhas In The Morning - 03.23.17

Since I will be changing jobs soon, I began taking things home from my office.  My Buddha Homer on a doughnut was one of those things and I put him between my two blue Buddha heads at home.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2131 - America Has Always Been Great - 03.22.17

This wall along Cahuenga has been great over the past few months since the election in terms of great street art.  Recently these posters went up.  They are just to the right of the Trump Putin piece that I have shown in the past.  I finally stopped today to really take in all of these American icons.  Today I also accepted a new job and so in a couple weeks I won't be passing this wall every morning any more.  I will miss it.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2130 - The House That Screamed and Pieces - 03.21.17

This evening I went and saw a great double feature with two horror films from Spain.  "The House That Screamed" was a lush, beautiful Gothic horror in the vein of a Hammer film.  It exceeded my expectations in terms of tense and scary sequences.  "Pieces" also was so much better than I was expecting, but in a completely different sense.  I was thinking it was just going to be a fun 80's slasher film, which it was, but it was also the funniest one I have ever seen.  At almost every term there was something hysterical in terms of imagery, plot twists, dialogue, over the top violence or gratuitous nudity.  The theater was full, if not sold out and everyone was into it which made the experience absolutely great.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2129 - Depeche Mode and Def Leppard - 03.20.17

These are a couple 45s that I have out and really should file away.  I pulled them out over a year ago for a party I was having.  I saw them today and thought about Depeche Mode's new record and thought it was worthy of a photo.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2128 - Depeche Mode "Spirit" - 03.19.17

This past Friday Depeche Mode released Spirit and I received the record in the mail Friday as well.  It was a lovely thing to come home to Friday after work.  I have given the record a couple listens and I love it.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2127 - Selfie At Sunset - 03.18.17

This evening we went up to the Griffith Observatory for some photos at sunset.  This is my daughter and her friends.  I'll admit I had them recreate a moment for this photo after I saw them taking a selfie.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2126 - Chili Willy Hot Sauce - 03.17.17

I love Chili Willy Hot Sauce.  I picked this up at the Farmer's Market next to the grove a couple weeks ago.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2125 - Navajo Joe and Chato's Land - 03.16.17

This evening I returned to the New Beverly for a couple westerns.  I forgot to bring my Canon to work with me for a quality photo and so I snapped this with my phone before the film.  Navajo Joe was great.  I had scene that before and knew I would love it.  The soundtrack is a a standout Morricone score.  Chato's Land was with Charles Bronson and was a dark revenge film.  The director went on to team up with Bronson a couple years after this to make Death Wish, which explored similar territory.  I really enjoyed Chato's Land.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2124 - Il Milionari - 03.15.17

This Italian pop record from the 60's is yet another record from my Goodwill trip.  There is a cover of the Beatles' "Please Please Me" on here which is a highlight.  It is mostly in Italian, which I love.  I have digitized this record now and have listened to is several times.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2123 - Slaughterhouse and Pigs - 03.14.17

This morning I stopped by the New Beverly to take a photo of this parking sign and the marquee in the background.  I then returned in the evening for the double feature.  Both films were fantastic.  Slaughterhouse was funny and sort of campy, while also having some horrific moments.  The filmmakers and a bunch of the cast were there.  Pigs was a really weird film and had a strange dreamlike quality.  The soundtrack was trippy and assaulting.  In the end I really enjoyed the movie.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2122 - Moana - 03.13.17

I picked up Moana this past weekend.  This is the Blu-ray.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2121 - The Mamas and the Papas "20 Greatest Hits" - 03.12.17

This afternoon I watched a documentary on Netflix called "The Wrecking Crew" which was about the studio musicians collectively known as The Wrecking Crew.  After watching that I put on this record of The Mamas and The Papas because some of the songs of the Mama and The Papas were features in the documentary.  This is another one of the records I picked up last Friday.  It is something I saw today.

Day 2120 - Auto Club - 03.11.17

This morning I went to get my car smog checked and then drove over to AAA to register my car.  This is the sign out front and is something I saw today.

Day 2119 - Kirby Stone Four "Guys and Dolls" - 03.10.17

I picked this record up last week and gave it a spin this past weekend when I digitized it.  I have since listened to it one other time.  The arrangements are unlike anything I could have ever imagined and I love it.  Some of the tracks sounds like the happiest versions you could ever sing.  It almost is so happy that it seems too happy, like someone putting on a happy act.  Still it is infectious.  On top of all of that there is an overture number where they have written a bunch of original lyrics that tell the story of guys and dolls over the overture medley.  The record is worth having for that opening track alone.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2118 - Shirley Temple Complete Songbook - 03.09.17

Today I am featuring yet another record from last week's Goodwill haul.  This is a double record of Shirley Temple songs from her movies.  The records are in really good condition and when I digitized them this weekend they sounded great.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2117 - Breaking Glass - 03.08.17

This soundtrack to Breaking Glass is one of the records I found this past week.  I was sooooo excited when I found this.  I was just exposed to this film this last year and I loved it.  The soundtrack has some great songs.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2116 - Assault On Precint 12 and Combat Cops - 03.07.17

Tonight I went to the New Beverly and saw two Austin Stoker flicks.  Seeing Assault on Precinct 13 on the big screen was a real treat.  This screening was sold out and everyone was as expected, really big fans.  Combat Cops was a nice surprise as I had not seen this film before.  This is something I saw today.

Monday, March 6, 2017

Day 2115 - The Rolling Stones "Hot Rocks" - 03.06.17

This copy of Hot Rocks is another one of the records I picked up Friday.  This too sounds great.  I have a good memory of this album, because it was the very first Rolling Stones record I heard as a kid.  My neighbor had it.  This is something I saw today.

Sunday, March 5, 2017

Day 2114 - Led Zeppelin I - 03.05.17

This is one of the Led Zeppelin records I picked up this week.  I gave it a clean and it sounds great.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2113 - Colorful Sunrise - 03.04.17

Thursday I walked down to the Goodwill at lunch and I didn't bring any money.  I saw 2 records that I wanted to buy and so I put them at the bottom of a stack of records and hoped they'd be there Friday.  Friday I walked down with money in my pocket and not only was I pleased to find that the two records were still there, but there were a whole bunch of new records that were not there the day before.  There were some Beatles, Stones and Zeppelin records in pretty good condition.  There were some others as well, so I ended up walking back a box of records one mile to the office.  This morning I woke up before dawn and opened my recently purchased record cleaner and I cleaned records for a couple hours.  In the middle of that process I looked out the window and caught an amazing sunrise.  Now I'll be honest and confess that I have tweaked the colors here to be more pink and purple than they were.  It was more orange.  But still.  Gorgeous.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2112 - Cubs Cap - 03.03.17

This is my Cubs cap hanging on the fan next to my computer.  I quickly snapped this photo this morning before running off to work because I knew I would not have time for a photo later in the day or evening.  This evening my wife and I went and saw Get Out.  I actually saw it earlier this week and so this was my second time watching it.  It is great.  Anyway, this hat is something I saw today.

Day 2111 - Deee-Lite "Goove Is In The Heart" - 03.02.17

I pulled this Deee-Lite single off the shelf for today's photo.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2110 - Curtis Mayfield And The Impressions - 03.01.17

This past weekend I was at Fry's Electronics and I rummaged through the discount CD bin and found some great CDs.  This one of The Impressions is one of them.  I have listened to this at least 3 times this week.  This is something I saw today.
