Day 10 - Catalina and Victory - 05.31.11

So what the heck am I doing posting a photo at 3 in the morning? Well, the simple answer is that I couldn't sleep. Woke up around 1:30 and couldn't go back to sleep because I kept thinking about getting up and taking some night photos. So that's what I did. This is taken in the street in front of my house. I love the way the trees naturally frame the shot. So even thought is the middle of the night it is the beginning of a long Tuesday and this is something I saw today.

Day 9 - Bathroom Sink - 05.30.11

My memorial day was spent doing some Spring cleaning and projects around the house. This is a shot of our bathroom sink that we took out a couple weeks back. It's sitting on our back porch for the time being. I think we'll try and see if we can get a couple bucks for it on Craig's list or something. I thought it made for an interesting photo up against the all of my house. I took the photo mid morning which made for a nice dramatic shadow. So that is something I saw today.

Day 8 - American Flag and TV Antenna - 05.29.11

It was a very blustery day here in Burbank. I wanted to somehow capture some of that wind on film. I tried taking some photos with a longer shutter to capture the movement of the trees, but I didn't get any to work out how I wanted. I was ready to give up and so I went and took some photos of an orange traffic cone that looked like it had been run over a thousand times. It had lots of character. But then I saw this. This American flag blowing in the wind. I thought it captured the bluster day feel. Then on top of that the house had this huge TV antenna on it and I thought that made for a real interesting image. To great symbols of America on one house, the flag and TV. I thought is was also somewhat telling as to the size of the two symbols. Our love of TV is huge, which this old antenna nicely represented. So there you have it. Something I saw today.

Day 7 - Iron In The Morning - 11.28.11

Showed some restraint today and just took a couple photos of our iron. This was good, because the day was pretty busy running errands, buying stuff for the house and doing a little Spring cleaning. So anyways, this morning this iron in our front window was something I saw today.

Day 6 - Sewing - 05.27.11

Keeping it really simple today. Took some photos of my wife's sewing machine. I like he shallow depth of field and the little accents of color that pop. The morning light was nice as well. Runner ups as usual are on the flickr feed. And that was something I saw today.

Day 5 - Giant Chinese Carton - 05.26.11

The fates are conspiring to kill me. I woke this morning and thought I won't take any pictures this morning. I'm just going to bring my camera to work and find one or two things to shoot so that I'm not working all evening on photos. Then when I get to work the whole campus is decorated for the release of Kung Fu Panda 2. So there were all sorts of cool decorations and festivities. So I of course shot tons of photos. Most of them are lame, but there are some passable ones in there and a few gems. I've put a few of the other nice one on the Flickr feed.

The reason this one finally won out was because it is just plain interesting. A giant Chinese take out carton isn't something you see everyday. I also like the way the image almost looks like it is a miniature that I shot with some sort of a macro lens. It isn't though. It was giant, it was real and it was something I saw today.

Day 4 - Benihana Lemons - 05.25.11

Today was my daughter's 5th Grade promotion ceremony which meant that I shot a lot of photos today. I'm certainly not making things easy for myself. I had nearly a thousand photos to go through to get down to just one photo. If you want to see some of the runner ups, feel free to check out my flickr feed.

So after the promotion ceremony we went to Benihana's for lunch with some friends. These lemons were for the lemon chicken and they won the top spot for the photo of something I saw today.

Day 3 - Dogi Pot - 05.24.11

Boy today was another tough day for decisions. I took a bunch of photos again on the morning walk. I don't think I can keep doing that because it leaves me too many to process and then choose from. One thing I think I may end up doing is re-shooting photos. For instance I took a picture of a mailbox today and it almost made the top spot, but there was a leaf in the shot that was bugging me. I may try taking the same photo tomorrow, but without the leaf. We'll see.

Today's photo comes from a little park area in Burbank. I love taking photos of signs. I don't know why I do. I just do. I liked the way this sign popped from the background and I think that was the thing that separated it from the others. And now you know something I saw today.

Day 2 - Street Construction - 05.23.11

Took a few interesting photos today, which made it tough to select just one. I really do need to figure out what to do with the runner up photos.

So I brought the camera on the morning walk with the wife. I have a feeling that is going to happen a lot for the foreseeable future. As we turned back down our street I found this construction pylon thing. I don't know exactly what it's called. It was out in the street and I couldn't actually see a reason for it. Seemed like it was worthy of a snap. And now you know that this was something I saw today.

Day 1 - Side of A Burbank House - 05.22.11

Just got a new camera this weekend and so I've been doing a lot of playing. During the playing I was taking pictures of all sorts of different things and I thought that perhaps this could be the basis of a new blog idea. Take one photo and post it. Perhaps write about it. Perhaps not. The idea would be that each post is something new and different. It will also document what I'm seeing. I'll try and stick to doing a photo on the day that I post, but I can't guarantee that. Today I took a long walk around Burbank and took several interesting and varied photos that I think would be fun to share at some point, but I want to stick to the one photo, one post rule for now.

So the first photo is of the side of a house I walk past today. I took note of the house because it was kind of run down for the neighborhood and it therefore had some interesting textures. The side of the house was in shadow and I wanted to see what kind of exposure I could get and what I could do in Photoshop afterwards. So here it is. Something I saw today.
