Day 3663 - Yellow Flower - 05.31.21

Last weekend we planted a bunch of flowers in our backyard.  This yellow one is one of them.  This is something I saw today.
 

Day 3662 - The New Beverly Cinema "Welcome Back Friends" - 05.30.21

This afternoon my wife and I drove over to the New Beverly to pickup the calendar for the month.  I don't know that I am quite ready to go back to a theater, especially if I have to wear a mask, but I am still super excited to have the New Beverly back.  I picked up a calendar to add to the growing collection.  I have also started watching some of the movies on the calendar.  I love having the calendar for a guide.  This is something I saw today.
 

Day 3661 - Spread Love - 05.29.21

Today I ran to Costco, Aldi and Monte Carlo Deli.  I had my camera and saw this mural across the street from Monte Carlo Deli.  I had not seen is before.  This is something I saw today.

Day 3655 - "The Quiet Man" DVD - 05.23.21

This afternoon I watched "The Quiet Man."  I had not watched this film for many years and I didn't remember much.  I quite enjoyed it.  This is something I saw today.

This morning I went over to Pasadena to Linden Optometry to pick out a different pair of glasses, because the frame that I had ordered was discontinued.  I arrived early and took some photos of this mural on the building next door.   This is something I saw today.

This Tonkotsu Ramen Bowl was my lunch today.  This and a dose of Mystery Science Theater 3000.  We finished watching the episode with "Gamera vz Gyaos" which was pretty good.  This is something I saw today

Day 3650 - New Blu-Rays - 05.18.21

Last week I got a new batch of Blu-rays.  As you can see there were a couple David Lynch films in the bunch.  I've been rewatching Twin Peaks the Return and I have been listening to the Pure Cinema podcast talk through the Lynch Filmography and so I am finally getting around to buying some of these films on Blu-ray.  I've had them digitally for a long time, but i wanted to get proper physical copies.  I also got a film noir set and "Son Of Paleface" a Bob Hope film I have not seen yet.  I got this noire set because I was looking to pick up Gun Crazy.  I found this set which also had "The Setup" in it and that is a film I have been wanting to rewatch.  When I first moved to Los Angeles in 1997, I discovered The American Cinematheque.  At that point there had not restored the Egyptian theater and were running screening out of Raleigh studios if I remember correctly.  I could be wrong about that, it was so long ago.  What I remember is that it was in a relatively small screening room on a small lot and I felt like I had discovered something really cool.  The first thing I ever went and saw was "The Setup" which was a movie I had never seen before. I really liked it and I was so happy to be living in a city where there were things like this where you could go see old movies on the big screen.  Needless to say, I have some good films lined up for the weeks to come.  This is something I saw today.
 

Day 3649 - Road Closed To Thru Traffic - 05.17.21

Today the crane and trucks arrived and the new telephone/electrical poles were installed.  It was all quite interesting to observe.  This is something I saw today.
 

Day 3648 - Video Trash & Treasures - 05.16.21

This is an interesting book I picked up recently.  I find it interesting because it from the early 90s and it sort of captures some of the thoughts on cult films at the time.  I was reading one article in this book and it talked about thrillers and how they weren't being made by Hollywood much anymore because they didn't make money. I find it super interesting because shortly after this book was published I feel like Hollywood when on a Thriller spree.  The 90s had all sorts of thrillers and I think that is because they made lots of money.  

Also what is interesting is that I think many of these films were a little harder to find when this book was written, but now with the internet and all the Blu-rays and DVDs that have been release since then, you can track down almost anything.  

Anyway, this book is an interesting read that i can pick up and enjoy just to see what the thoughts were on various films at the time and compare that to views today, or my own personal views if I've seen the films. This is something I saw today.
 

Day 3647 - Field Of Flowers - 05.15.21

Today we drove down to Carlsbad to meet relatives and walk through the flower fields.  This is a photo of some of the flowers.  It was nice getting out for a day trip.  Haven't had one of those in a while.  This is something I saw today.
 

Day 3646 - No Parking Sign - 05.14.21

This no parking sign is in front of my house.  The street is going to be essentially closed next week so that they can bring a crane in to install a bunch of new telephone/electrical poles.  This is something I saw today.

This is another book I picked up at a little lending library.  I've always wanted to read this and now that I have this copy I am one step closer.  This is something I saw today.

I picked this book up out of one of the neighborhood little lending libraries.  I thought my wife would like to read it, because it looks like the kind of thing she would like.  This is something I saw today.

This last month on the "Hit Parade" podcast the subject was Taylor Swift.  So I have been going back and listening to a bunch or Taylor's albums.  This is the only one that I actually have in a physical form.  I'l actually like to get her last 3 albums.  I've like them a lot.  This is something I saw today.
