Day 4120 -"Demonoid" and "The Brood" At The Bev - 08.31.22

Tonight we saw the classic "The Brood" and "Demonoid."  "The Brood" I have seen a bunch of times, but this was the first time on the big screen.  I had never seen "Demonoid", and that was the film I was most excited to see.  I had seen the trailer run at The Bev several times this past month and the film look crazy and right up my alley.  While the film was crazy, I kind of wanted it to be crazier.  In the end I thought the film was okay and played well with the Bev crowd, but I think an at home viewing may be tougher.  Even with that said, I assume at some point I will rewatch this movie and it will be at home.  This is something I saw today.

Day 4116 - "The Keep" and "The Relic" At The New Beverly - 08.27.22

My wife and I watched "The Keep" and "The Relic" tonight.  I've seen both of these movies before.  "The Keep" I had seen some bootleg rip off the internet and I remember being kind of confused and didn't love it. So I was looking forward to seeing this on film and in a theater.  As it turned out the movie is strange and had some cool imagery, but in then end it didn't fully work for me.  "The Relic" on the other hand is just a straight up roller coaster ride of fun.  It knows what it wants to be and then delivers.  I had actually seen this on at The Chinese Theater back in the day when it was released, but it was virtually an empty theater.  Seeing it with a fairly full theater at the Bev was great.  This is something I saw today.

Day 4109 - "Reservoir Dogs" and "Slacker" At The Bev - 08.20.22

Saw a couple classics on 90s independent cinema at the Bev this evening.  This was my wife's first time watching both of these films.  I've rewatched "Reservoir Dogs" in the last year or so at home, but it was great seeing it on the big screen with an audience.  "Slacker" I had not watched since the mid 90s when I was in college.  That was fun revisiting and great with an audience.  Comedy is great to experience with an audience.  This is something I saw today.

This evening we went and saw "John Carpenter's The Thing" which is an all time classic.  It was great seeing it on the big screen, but to be honest I was more curious about "Body Snatchers" which I had not seen before.  It was a pretty interesting film.  It isn't as good as "The Thing" of course, but it was still pretty decent and played well with the New Bev crowd.  This is something I saw today.

Day 4097 - Wire "Pink Flag" LP - 08.08.22

"Pink Flag" by Wire was on the 1001 albums list for today.  I wrote the following to my friends at work.

Wire is a band I had known the name of for many years, but I never really listened to them until a few years ago. I listened to this album and had the reaction of how have I not been listening to them all these years. I think in my mind I thought they were more on the electronic side of things, possibly because of the name wire. I think that just made me think synths. So I was so surprised to find that they were way more punk and post punk and in some respects pointing the way toward the hard core punk of the late 70s and early 80s. Needless to say after listening to this record I put it on a short list of albums I was hunting for when I went into record stores. After a few years of not finding old copies, a bunch of Wire albums were rereleased on Vinyl and so I just bought a brand new copy. If you listened to this album in the background while working and didn't recognize any of the songs and maybe it didn't connect with you, I recommend listening again and turning up the volume. This is an album that benefits from being played loud. This is an album that should be listened to like your 16 and full of angst and you crank of the volume in your room on on your headphones. I think your experience may change. Will this become a classic like the first Clash album? I won't go that far, because it doesn't have the catchy songs, but I think you may want to listen to it from time to time with the volume up.

This is something I saw today.
