Day 2323 - Franken Berry 2017 - 09.30.17

The Monster Cereals for 2017 have arrived.  I picked up Franken Berry, Count Chocula and Boo Berry this afternoon at Target.  Hurray.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2322 - Sunrise at MBS Parking Garage - 09.29.17

It has been a long week at work.  Today I slept in and didn't get up until 5:30 and so I got to work at sunrise instead of while it was still dark.  This is the morning light starting to catch the buildings.  This is something I saw today.

I have been going into the office early all this week and today I decided to bring my camera because the sunrises have been great.  This morning I caught this flock of birds flying by during the sunrise.  This is something I saw today.

I've been in the mood for revisiting this S U R V I V E record from last year.  I think mostly because I am anxiously awaiting the new season of Stranger Things.  This record is also pretty good.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2316 - Crimson Ghost Mask - 09.23.17

Today my wife and I went to the Mystic Museum in Burbank and visited the Slashback Video and Ben Cooper Masks exhibits.  If you have a chance to visit, I highly recommend it.  It is just ten bucks.  One of the masks they had there was this Crimson Ghost mask.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2315 - Bryan Adams "Reckless" - 09.22.17

This morning I woke up with "Cuts Like a Knife" in my head.  Now I don't have that album on vinyl.  I should have is somewhere in a box of tapes, but those are packed away in the garage.  So instead I picked Reckless off the shelf and took this photo.  This is something I saw today.

Jose Feliciano's version of "Light My Fire" came up on my iPod this week.  So I decided to photograph the record this morning.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2313 - Wonder Woman Blu-Ray - 09.20.17

The Blu-Ray for Wonder Woman came out this past weekend.  My wife pre-ordered it so we got it on the day of release.  This was one of my favorite movies this year.  I saw it twice in the theater.  Can't wait to watch it again.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2301 - Jan David "Flamenco Funk" - 09.08.17

This morning I looked in the easy listening section of my records for something different.  I came across this record which I picked up in the last year or two.  It made me think that I need to listen to this record again this weekend.  I remember it being pretty good.  Well this morning I just photographed it.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2299 - Mix Tape 3 Easter 2000 - 09.06.17

I have some old mix tapes on a shelf in my record room.  I thought I'd photograph one today to remember the old days of mix tapes, which are seeing a little bit of a resurgence.  I like mix tapes or mix CD's because they are a great time capsule of what you were listening to during a certain period.  In 2000 I made a series of mix tapes for Easter.  I think I made these for a road trip.  As is my usual pattern the selections are eclectic.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2298 - The Rolling Stones "Blue & Lonesome" - 09.05.17

I fell in love with this record last year when I first heard it.  I wanted to buy it on vinyl, but the price has kept me from buying it.  I runs 35-40 dollars most places, which to me is insane because it actually isn't that much music.  I couldn't justify the cost.  This weekend we went to Pasadena to walk around and look in the shops along Colorado.  I found this record in Urban Outfitters along with the latest Cold War Kids record.  This record was marked down to $24 because the shrink wrap had been ripped.  They had another copy that was unopened for the insanely high price.  To make matters even better was that there was a Labor Day weekend sale, which took off another 30% off of sale items, so I got this record for 17 bucks.  Now that is a price I could live with.  So that is my "Blue & Lonesome" story.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2297 - No Swimming Sign - 09.04.17

For Labor day we went to Manhattan Beach.  The day was perfect because it was pretty much overcast for most of the day.  We got there early and stayed until early afternoon.  Mid morning a lifeguard put up No Swimming signs.  I am not exactly sure why, but I think it had something to do with currents or undertow.  Of course there were silly people still going in the water.  Didn't affect me because I wasn't going in.  my wife and I just sat on the beach under our umbrellas reading and relaxing.  My daughter and her friends were in the water until these signs went up and then they went and checked out the shops nearby.  It was a good day for all.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2296 - Burbank On Fire - 09.03.17

This weekend the Burbank mountains have been on fire.  Apparently this is the biggest fire in LA County history.  I snapped this photo this morning while in the car.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2295 - Yard Light - 09.02.17

This summer I finally hung some legitimate lights in our backyard.  We had some Christmas lights back there, but it was pretty sketch.  This is one of the light bulbs of the new lights.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2293 - The Fat Boys "The Twist" 7-inch and Mac Quayle - 08.31.17

This morning I was looking for another single to photograph and I pulled out this Fat Boys record.  I photographed the cover, but after that I was reading the back and noticed that Mac Quayle did keyboards on this record.  Mac Quayle, is the composer for Mr. Robot, which is where I know him from.  He has done other things as well, but I know him from that and I love his work with that series.  So I thought I'd take another photo of the back of the record to show that credit.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2292 - Dire Straits "Money For Nothing" - 08.30.17

This morning I grabbed another 7-inch, but this one is from the 80's.  I tried to make this photo a little more interesting than the last couple, but utilizing a foreground element.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2291 - Black Rebel Motorcycle Club "Stop" 7-inch - 08.29.17

I've had a couple boxes of 7-inches out recently and since I photographed a Black Lips record yesterday, I thought I'd dig into the box again and right near by was this single from Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.  Great track.  I miss buying new 7inch records.  in the 2000's I was going to Amoeba a lot buying new singles, but I have been out of that habit in recent years.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2290 - Black Lips "Katrina" 7-inch - 08.28.17

With it being hurricane season and since it does seem to be the topic of conversations today, I dug out this "Katrina" 7-inch.  I love this song about Hurricane Katrina.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2289 - Yellow Flower - 08.27.17

Day 2288 - J.Geils Band "Freeze Frame" - 08.26.17

This album is one of the first albums I ever owned way back in fifth grade.  Of course back then I bought the tape.  "Centerfold" was the huge hit off this record and I played that song endlessly.  Back in the day I didn't fully appreciate many of the other songs on the record and thought they were a little weird.  As I've grown up and my musical tastes have expanded, I appreciate the whole record.  I've always liked the cover art.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2287 - Cat Stevens "Tea For The Tillerman" - 08.25.17

I listened to Cat Stevens latest record "The Laughing Apple" and really like it.  It sounds like good old Cat Stevens.  I totally recommend it.  Also my daughter recently asked me about the film Mickey and Maude which her friend recommended to her.  That of course lead to a conversation about the great Cat Stevens songs in that film and also this latest record.  So I have had Cat Stevens on the brain recently.  Well, that album I have digitally, so I can't photograph it.  So I grabbed "Tea For The Tillerman" off the shelf for a photo today.  This is something I saw today.

Day 2286 - Night Rander "Midnight Madness" - 08.24.17

All I want to say about this album cover is that how eighties it is with the guy in scrubs.  What was the deal with dressing in scrubs?  This is something I saw today.

Day 2285 - Derek And The Dominos "Layla" - 08.23.17

I've had Eric Clapton's version of "Layla" from his MTV Unplugged album come up a couple times on random on my iPod. So I had that song in my head this morning when I was looking for an album to photograph.  Hence today's choice of Derek and the Dominos "Layla".  This is something I saw today.

Day 2284 - The Housemartins "London 0 Hull 4" - 08.22.17

I love The Housemartins.  I discovered them in College from a friend across the dorm hall.  He had their second album "The People Who Grinned Themselves to Death".  I didn't hear this album until many years later, but I love it as well.  I picked this up at Atomic Records a few weeks ago when I had that big record haul.  This has yet to be filed away on the shelf and is still out with the records I have been playing recently.  This is something I saw today.
