Day 1989 - The Bride - 10.31.16
Today of course was Halloween and at work there was a costume contest. This is my friend Kelsey dressed as The Bride of Frankenstein. I share an office with Kelsey and it has been Halloween in our office for a good 6 weeks now. We've had Halloween music playing for weeks and Kelsey has pretty much dressed up in some Halloween themed outfit or costume every day this month. Amazing commitment. This is something I saw today.

Day 1987 - Skull - 10.29.16
Today was a good day for photos. It was tough picking just one photo. This morning I got up early and went to the Griffith Park observatory to take photos at sunrise and I go quite a few great ones. Then this evening we had the annual Trunk of Treat activity where I not only got this cool photo of a skull decoration, but I captured a bunch or great portraits of folks in make up or costumes as well as some other interesting decoration photo experiments. In the end I went with this spooky photo of a skull. This is something I saw today.

Day 1985 - Phantoms - 10.27.16
This week has been exhausting and yet it I wouldn't change a thing. All month I have been excited for and dreading this week because I knew I was going to be out almost every night because there was so many amazing things to see all in a row. Tonight some friends and I went and saw the original silent "Phantom of the Opera" and the De Palma classic "Phantom of the Paradise." I haven't seen both movies for quite some time. I probably hadn't seen "Phantom of the Opera" for 15 or 20 years. "Phantom of the Paradise" it had probably just been 3 or 4 years. I'll admit I was mostly going for Paradise. The print was amazing and the experience of watching it in a sold out theater was great. It was unlike any other time watching the film. This was the sort of experience that really makes you remember why going to a theater and doing things with a group of people is so great. I don't want to say that watching a movie in a theater is better than watching a movie at home because there are advantages to both experiences, but I am saying that they are very different experiences and I don't want to give one up for the other. Anyway, enough of the soap box. This is the theater marquee this morning. This is something I saw today.

This evening was another late night. Tonight wasn't a movie, but a concert with AJR and Ingrid Michaelson. Ingrid was fantastic of course. AJR were pretty good for a pop band. The Theater was gorgeous. This is something I saw today.

Day 1983 - "Alice Cooper: Welcome To My Nightmare" and "Son Of Dracula" - 10.25.16
Tonight was another night out at the cinema. Tonight was a couple of rock and roll flicks. I have been looking forward the the Alice Cooper movie all month. I actually was trying to find this movie about six months ago to watch and so I was extremely excited when I saw it on the New Beverly calendar. It was a fascinating movie that was mostly a staged film to appear as if it was live in front of an audience. That was sort of disappointing for me, because it kept taking me out of the moments and from what I really wanted to see, which was Alice Cooper live. The film wasn't a complete disappointment because the last 20-30 minutes was actual concert footage. I thought this was great. This was raw and full of energy. The performance was genuine in a way that the staged footage wasn't. There is something to be said to being up on a stage in front of an audience where performers is giving them energy and they in turn are feeding off the audience's energy. I also have to say that while the staged portion wasn't what I was hoping for, it was still interesting and compelling. The second flick was "Son of Dracula" which was a crazy Ringo Starr and Harry Nilsson movie. I was super tired during that movie and had trouble following it. I think that was a mixture of it being a weird movie and my exhaustion. I think I have to watch it again. This photo was taken this morning before work. This is something I saw today.

Day 1982 - "King King" and "Supernatural" - 10.24.16
This evening I went and watched the original "King King" and an interesting b-movie called "Supernatural" from 1933. This is an image from the New Beverly this morning under some refreshingly cloudy skies. This is something I saw today.

Day 1979 - Christmas with Doug Oldham - 10.21.16
I picked this record up recently at a yard sale. The family had a bunch of Christian Gospel records Doug Oldham and his family were part of that scene. He died a few years ago after a career spanning 60 years in music. He apparently had 64 records according to Wikipedia. Amazing! I'll be honest it was hard to pass up this cover. The family is quite amazing to look at, but I think it was because old Doug reminded me of Hoyt Axton, but even rounder. I still need to digitize this record, but eventually I will and it will probably make an appearance one year on a mix. This is something I saw today.

Day 1978 - "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" and "Dr. Black, Mr. Hyde" - 10.20.16
This evening I went to a Jekyll and Hyde double feature. The 1931 version was startling in how good it was. There was some true moments of horror. Love pre-code films. Then Dr. Black, Mr. Hyde was a 1970's blaxploitation flick that was also pretty great. I recommend both flicks. This was something I saw today.

Day 1975 - Horror of Dracula and Dracula '79 - 10.17.16
Woke up this morning to a nice rainy day. On the way to work I stopped at the New Beverly to snap this photo of the double feature which I then returned to see this evening. Both films were great. The 1979 Dracula I think was even better than I had remembered. It was a fun night. This is something I saw today.

Day 1972 - Cerebus - 10.14.16
I feel like this was such a big influential book when I was growing up, but it seems like it has fallen off the radar. Maybe I am imagining that, but I feel like there is a whole generation of readers who aren't acquainted with the epic saga of Cerebus. This is something I saw today.

Day 1962 - Triple Feature - 10.05.16
Tonight I went to a great triple feature at the New Beverly. It was a long night and I was glad I went. I went in thinking that I would only stick around for the first two films, but I ended up staying for The Dark as well. I am glad I did. I had watched the movie on youtube last week because I didn't think I was going to stay and watch, but the theater was a much better experience. This is something I saw today.

Day 1961 - The Capitol Records Building - 10.04.16

Day 1960 - Debbie Gibson "Shake Your Love" 12-inch - 10.03.16
This is another single I picked up at the Goodwill recently. I wasn't a big Debbie Gibson fan back in the day, but as I've gotten older I've gotten a bigger appreciation for late 80's pop. The record has a bunch of different mixes, which is cool. This is something I saw today.
