Day 739 - Alternate Transportation - 05.29.13
Just around the corner from my office there is this wagon and scooter thing. The electric scooter thing supposedly doesn't hold a charge very long so it just sits there. I'm not sure why there is a wagon there and who uses it. It was something I saw today.

Day 736 - Dancing at the Santa Inés Mission - 05.26.13
We got up at the crack of dawn to head out into Solvang for a photo shoot. The first stop was the Santa Inés Mission where my daughter posed for some dance photos in front of the front door. At one point the priest came out to pick up his morning paper. He asked us what we were doing and we told him we were just taking photos. He laughed and said "I didn't think any of my parishioners would be hear an hour and a half before service. He was a nice fellow. Well we ended up getting a few great shots there and some more in downtown Solvang. After that we headed up the coast to San Simeon where we got some more great photos. It was a long day and a long drive back home. This one in front of the mission was something I saw today.

Day 735 - Chalk Line - 05.25.13
We got up early today and drove to Santa Barbara for the Il Madonnari Italian Street Painting Festival. We had breakfast at Sambo's which was yummy. It was interesting to see all the different methods the artists had for doing their art. Most did lay down a grid, but even that was done several different ways. Some had a carpenter's chalk line. This man used a level as a straight edge. I liked the way this photo came out because of the composition of the lines. Not only the chalk line, but the compositional lines of the man's hands and the woman's hand in the background. It all just comes together. It was something I saw today.

Day 734 - Disneyland Gates Before Dawn - 05.24.13
Today has been quite a day. I woke up at 1:30 this morning and couldn't go back to sleep. Why? Because I was anticipating having to be up by 3:30 because I wanted to leave at 4AM to head to Disneyland. Today was the Disney Parks Monstrous Summer! All-Nighter. The parks opened at 6AM and will be open until 6Am tomorrow. So I got to Disneyland at 5AM and took photos outside the park and then from 6-7 I took photos in the park. Then I had to head back home and pick my mother up at the airport and then head on into work. Needless to say at the end of the day, I am exhausted. In addition to being exhausted, I am really pleased with this photo of the front gates before they opened. It was something I saw today.

The crowds were big and so we left after just a few hours. We did get to see the Tangled show in The Royal Theater. It was very funny and entertaining. If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend it. On the way out we caught the jazz band outside the firehouse. I caught this photo with Main Street USA reflected in the tuba. It was something I saw today.

Day 721 - Shy Bunny - 05.11.13
It was photo day for the dance studio which meant I hung around the lobby for a bunch of hours taking photos of the dancers in their costumes as they waited. This is a photo of a daughter of some friends. She is a favorite subject for obvious (cute) reasons. This shy pose is just adorable. It was something I saw today.

Day 712 - Astro Orbitor - 05.02.13
Today my wife and I went to Disneyland to perform one big experiment. How many rides could we ride in one day if we followed a few simple rules? We would go ride to ride in order of how we came across them in the park. We wouldn't skip rides even if we didn't like them. All of this we had to do within the limited park hours for the day 10AM - 8PM. For the most part we kept to this. There were a few exceptions. We had planned on taking the train from Toon Town to New Orleans Square so we could go from Toon Town to Critter Country, but the New Orleans Square station was closed. So we did ride the train, but we got off in Tomorrowland and walked to Critter Country. We skipped all the Tomorrowland rides because we had already ridden them earlier in the day. Also once we got to Critter Country we decided to get a Fast Pass for Splash Mountain instead of riding it then. That meant we did Winnie The Pooh and the rides over in that area and had to return later in the evening. This sort of criss crossing the park is what we were mostly trying to avoid, but I think in the end we probably saved 25-30 minutes because even we the walking back and forth we probably only spent 30 minutes walking to the ride, waiting in line and then riding the attraction. If we had waited in line the first time we were there we would have been in for at least an hour.
For fun I logged our times all day long. I marked down the minute we got in a line and the minute we got off the ride. I'm including that log so you can see how well we did. Of the open attractions we rode on everything except Indiana Jones. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, the Canoes, The Columbia and Space Mountain were closed. We also did not ride any of the cars, buses or trolley on Main Street USA, because they weren't running when we walked in the park in the morning and we didn't go back to Main Street USA until we left at night, and they weren't running then. All said and done we rode 27 rides. Here is the breakdown with notes about weird things that happened on the rides.
Star Tours - 10:01-10:20
Autopia - 10:28-10:45
Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage - 10:56-11:59

Dinner at Trader Sam's - 8:50-9:30 (Not in the park, but at the Disneyland hotel)
The photo above is of my wife on the Astro Orbitor. We both basically hate the ride, but today we gritted our teeth, smiled and road it. This picture of her riding behind me is something I saw today.
